Why is it that some early Tuesday mornings as I wake up, my legs feel weak, my head feels groggy, and my eyelids are droopy. I have all kinds of reasons why I shouldn’t bike. I say to myself, “I don’t feel like biking today.” These are excuses that can keep me in bed and from my workout with a few of my great High School friends. Now I like the benefits that I get from biking. So every Tuesday morning, I ask myself, Should I bike? My flesh says no, but my spirit says yes.
There are healthy benefits I get from biking. I get stronger. I feel healthier. Since I biked a few years ago, I find myself walking more and hiking more. I don’t feel tired nor do I feel any aches and pain on my legs. It feels good to be healthy. It is great to be with friends. My bike friends have become like my own brothers. After pondering the benefits, I motivate myself and say, “Just Do It! Bermie.”
To be honest, some days I also don’t feel like praying, worshiping, or reading my Bible. I have all kinds of excuses not to do these. Yet when I consider the immeasurable blessings and benefits I receive from having an everyday relationship with God, I tell myself, “Just Do it! Bermie.”
The Psalms remind us, “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not his benefits” (Psalm 103:2). Feeling weak? Praise God. Forget not his benefits.
There are days when the trials in our life get to us, but when we praise the Lord, we put our problems aside and concentrate on worshiping Him. When we worship Him, we are immersed deep in relationship with God. A relationship with our Loving Creator allows us to receive the benefits of restoration and peace in our lives. I begin to have a deeper sense of God’s love for me. As I get to know Him, I begin to see that I am truly a precious child of God. I begin to feel the very presence of Jesus in my life. He cares! He calls me His friend.
Through the years I notice that just when I start concentrating on reading His word, talking to Him, listening to Him and praising Him, I find that God has taken cared of the situation. He works quietly even when we don’t notice Him.
Are there days you don’t feel like praying or worshiping? When the excuses try to keep you down, think of the wonderful benefits God has for you especially when you stay in close communication with Him. Against all the protest of the weak flesh … Just Do It. Meditate on God. Talk to Him. Listen.
